Firefight is an immersive World War II real-time simulation game that sets itself apart from others in its genre with its exceptional AI and meticulous attention to detail. The tanks in the game are meticulously modeled, complete with a physics engine that accurately represents their movements, featuring gears, rev counters, and speedometers. The tanks also display realistic tracked vehicle movement as they steer themselves using brake levers. Even the smallest details are accounted for - every bullet, shell, and piece of shrapnel is rendered in stunning 3D and ricochets authentically off of sloping surfaces.
One of the standout features in Firefight is the level of detail given to each individual infantryman. Each soldier's rank, name, weapon type, remaining ammunition, heart rate, and fatigue levels are visible to the player. The realism continues with machine gunners calling out for additional ammunition when running low, prompting squad members to rush over with spare rounds if available. Wounded soldiers also call for medics who swiftly sprint over to administer crucial first aid.
In addition to the ground combat elements, players have the ability to call in off-board artillery support. However, realism is never sacrificed, as it accurately depicts the need for ranging shots before the full 8-gun battery can open fire simultaneously.
Firefight offers a range of gameplay options. Players can face off against the sophisticated built-in AI or engage in a local network game against a friend using either WiFi or Bluetooth connections.
